Albert Einstein wrote this riddle early in the 19th century, claiming 98% of the world population would not be able to solve it, but I don't agree just have patience. There are no tricks, just pure logic, so good luck and don't give up. There's only one answer.
1. In a street there are five houses, painted five different colors.
2. In each house lives a person of different nationality
3. These five homeowners each drink a different kind of beverage, smoke different brand of cigar and keep a different pet.
THE QUESTION: WHO OWNS THE FISH?
HINTS
1. The Brit lives in a red house.
2. The Swede keeps dogs as pets.
3. The Dane drinks tea.
4. The Green house is next to, and on the left of the White house.
5. The owner of the Green house drinks coffee.
6. The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
7. The owner of the Yellow house smokes Dunhill.
8. The man living in the center house drinks milk.
9. The Norwegian lives in the first house.
10. The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.
11. The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
12. The man who smokes Blue Master drinks beer.
13. The German smokes Prince.
14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
15. The man who smokes Blends has a neighbor who drinks water.

f this and f you for this stupid riddle i can't solve.
The Brit.
I came close to you, prufock, but I had house 4 and 5 reversed. The Statement says "The Green house is next to, and on the left of the White house." I had to decide, "Does this mean as I'm looking at it?" Most people who live in a house talk about their neighbors to the left or right from the perspective of the house, not someone looking from the street. So I put the Green House as #5. This logic holds true either way.
I'm so surprised to see this riddle! I had solved it as a training for my specialization admittance exam (at least at a glance it seems the same. I got that the German had the fish). Interesting is that I've always considered myself not a intelligent person but a hard worker. This riddle proves it again.
Thanks!
The German w/ the fish is right!
Got it! I love logic puzzles. Einstein must have been pretty arrogant to believe that only 2% of the population could solve his riddle! (or am I just part of that 2%? -ha)
Found your blog through Becoming Minimalist. I look forward to reading more of it. Ciao for now.
